2009 SUPERSHOE GOE'S INTO
THE VRT HISTORY BOOK
JESSE WINS THE B-MAIN IN DRAMATIC STYLE
ADAM WINS SATURDAY,RACES INTO THE A
This years Supershoe will be one to remember for the VRT Racing Team,as Jesse became the 2nd VanAvery Racer to score a B-Feature win at the Supershoe as His Dad Brad won the B twice Driving Jim Miller's car both times. Adam became the 1st VRT Driver to start the A-feature as he raced his way into the Main Event with a 4th place finish in his Last Chance Race Sunday. The weather was'nt much to write home about, But the weekend was full of excitment and some great partying in the Campsite.
FRIDAY HOTLAPS & QUALIFYING.....
The Team Arrived at around 10:30am with Gloomy skie's and light Drizzle falling on the track. The 1st decision the Team Had to address was if we wanted to Hotlap and Qualify on Friday. The Thought was to wait till Saturday morning during Late arrival qualifying to qualify the Car's, But get some Hotlaps in Friday. The Track opened up for Hotlaps around 2:00pm and the Track did'nt seem to have alot of Grip with the Constant Drizzle and cloudy Skie's, So Brad asked the Boy's if they were into Hotlapping Friday, and Both Declined, and we opted to wait till saturday morning.
SATURDAY QUALIFYING......
Jesse and Adam Took there Hotrod's out and ran some quick Hotlaps before Qualifying started. Jesse looked very good as the Car handled very well and looked fast. Adam was very impressive looking as well, as the Car Handled great but seemed to run out of motor at the end of the shoot. Adam would be the 1st VRT Car to qualify posting a quick lap of 14.252 that would eventually land him 54th quick out of 230 cars, and place him in the Odd Last Chance Race for the A-Feature. Jesse then took his Hotrod out and posted a lap of 14.414 that would make him 69th quick and lock him into the B-Feature for the 1st Time in his Career.
ADAM'S HEAT RACE SATURDAY.....
With the Constant threat of Rain around the Race Track, Gary Howe made the Call to eliminate the Heat Races Saturday and only Run the Heats for the A-Bracket Car's which in this case included Adam. Adam was slated to start 5th in the 9 car race, But 2 Cars opted out of the Heat Race, and Adam was moved up to the 3rd starting spot. Adam would have his hands full with the likes of Hank Miller (Butch's Son)starting on the pole and a Fast Car of Kenny Lollar #70 starting next to him. But Adam would prove to feel no intimination as he quickly put the pass on Miller and would Rocket the VRT Car to a impressive win! and build Momentum for the Team. Jesse would be left out of any Heat Racing as he would have to wait till Sunday to run his B-Feature.
SUNDAY'S LASTCHANCE FOR ADAM......
The Team arrived in the Pits Sunday Morning with Dark Clouds and Gloomy skie's and that Constant Light Drizzle falling on the Track. But at 12:30 the Track was ready for Racing!! Adam's Day would start right away, as his Lastchance Race was up 1st. Adam and the team rolled his Hotrod into the 3rd starting position next to the 7d of Tom Sevigny. Hank Miller in the #46 would again start on the pole. The Green would drop at 12:35pm and Adam would waste no time putting his car into the 2nd position before the 1st caution would be displayed on lap 2 for the #15 of Buddy Head hitting the front stretch wall. The #68 of Mark Vance was leading with Adam 2nd and Miller 3rd. Adam would pressure the #68 for the lead, But the 2nd caution fell on Lap 5 for a 3 car wreck in turn 2. On the re-start Adam wasted no time and made the run off turn 2 to take the lead on Lap 6. The 3rd caution came on Lap 10 with the #68 of Vance hitting the 1st turn wall at this time the 2008 Supershoe Winner Kenny Head in his fast #26 car had rocketed up to the 2nd position with the #47 of Tom Rutherford on his heals. The pressure now was on Adam to hold off some HEAVY HITTERS! The pressue would be to much for the Less Financed VRT Car, as Kenny Head would take the Lead and never look back, Adam faired slightly better with the Rutherford car holding him off for a couple laps before giving way to Rutherford and another faster car and settling for the 4th and final transfer spot and locking the 1st ever VRT Car into a Supershoe A-Feature. WAY TO GO ADAM!!!!
SUNDAYS B-FEATURE FOR JESSE.........
After waiting almost the entire weekend to Race, Jesse was up next as he was locked into the B-Feature for the 1st time. The Team was excited for Jesse's chance's as he was slated to roll off 6th next to the #8 of Chris May. Clyde McKee in the #4 and the #77 of Scott Moyer would start on Row 1. The Green would drop at 4:15pm with the 1st Caution happening almost immediatley on lap 1 with the #31 car spinning off turn 1. Jesse moved into the 5th spot on lap 3, and started pressuring the 4th spot. the 2nd caution came on lap 7 for the #54 car spinning in turn 2. Jesse made the pass and moved his Hotrod into the 4th spot on lap 10, when the 3rd caution flew for the #47 of fellow Galesburg Driver Simmie Hicks spinning in turn 3. the #8 of Chris May would make his Presents known as he would take the point on lap 11. Jesse was still 4th behind the #9 of Darwin Wolfe. The 4th Caution came on lap 17 when the #77 car drilled the 1st turn wall. Jesse was setting up the #9 of Wolfe for a pass to take over the 3rd spot when the 5th caution would be waved for the Pre-Race favorite Rich Hardy slowing in turn 3. Jesse would over take the #9 car on lap 27 and start to apply pressure on the #17 of Clay Deplanche for 2nd . Caution 6 would come on lap 34 for the #4 car of Mckee spinning out of turn 4. Jesse would start quickly on the re-start to over take the #17 of Deplanche and put his Hotrod into the 2nd spot behind the leader May in the #8 car. With Jesse applying constant pressure for the lead , and the #8 car holding off Jesse's advance's... The Luck would fall into place on Lap #38 (what a nice number) As while leading the race the #8 Car of Chris May Broke coming off turn 2, Jesse running full Bore quickly avoided plowing into him and jumped to the outside and took over the lead. Jesse would open a nice lead in the closing laps, and go on to score the WIN!!! over Matt Corliss in the #3, and Chris Nash in the #54. The Celebration on the front stretch was something we'll all remember for the rest of our live's as the Team worked hard to get the Boys to the Shoe. Brad was estatic with Joy as he seen Jesse win proberly the Biggest Race of his Career. WAY TO GO JESS!!
SUNDAYS A-FEATURE FOR ADAM............
Adam & the Team was still full of Excitment and Joy over Jesse's big win when the 24 cars were called to the staging area for the 75 lap A-Feature to determin the 2009 Supershoe! We rolled Adam's Hotrod into the 22nd starting position behind the Area's best Drivers, and some Really fast Cars We did'nt feel we had any kinda chance against the Faster, More Experienced and More Sponsored field....we were just Happy to be there and just wanted to see what Adam could do. Tom Wright in the #6 Car would lead the field to green at 5:40pm. Adam would run strong early keeping the pack within distance. After a couple early Cautions, Adam would begin to move up the board as cars dropped out, By lap 30 Adam had moved to the17th position when he started to hear a noise in the motor that caused him to pull out on lap 46. After he brung the car to our Pit, Brad found that the Exhaust had come apart and one of the tail sections had fallen off, After a quick fix, Brad sent Adam back out to get some more seat time. Adam would start running some very fast laps in the high 13's, and actually held off the leaders that were attempting to lap him , But on lap 54 his day would come to a end, as the Rear end went out and he was forced to park it. Adam would eventually finish a respectible 17th, running with some Heavy Hitters. Phil Bozell would capture the Win, with Mark Shook 2nd, and Andy Bozell 3rd.
